    Oh.

    April 17, 2007

This. I live 45 minutes away from where this happened today. Our DSL connection was wonky until after 3pm and we’ve all been sick in bed, so I didn’t even know it had happened until after the DSL technician came by to fix the connection and it was the top news story on the page when it came up.

My husband and I don’t know anyone that was involved–but I am still just…overwhelmed and sad. I’ve always been one to feel things pretty deeply, but ever since being pregnant and having Owen, anything bad is magnified by a hundred or more percent. I know it isn’t healthy, but events like what occured today make me just want to hold Owen and my husband so tightly, shut everything else in the world out and just never leave the house again. I get angry like everyone else but I can’t even fathom what level of rage would result in such an outcome. I can’t even put into words the feelings this evokes when I think about what if this were my child? What about the terror of the students who lived through it? And of course the question that everyone else is asking–why?

    I just don’t understand.

    Meme-y goodness

    April 7, 2007

I have been tagged by the woman you want writing all your letters to difficult relatives, Swistle for the 3 things meme. Maybe it has another name, but that’s what I’m calling it. So, without further ado:

    Three things I’m afraid of:
    1. Someone breaking into the house when my husband is away
    2. Telling someone ‘no’ if I think it will be an issue
    3. Being a bad mother

Three People Who Make Me Laugh:
    1. My husband
    2. Owen
    3. Connie

    Three Things I Love:
    1. Handwritten love notes
    2. A new, never been used before spiral bound notebook
    3. Being snuggled warm in bed on a snowy (or rainy depending on the season)
    afternoon with a good book

    Three Things I Hate:
    1. Petty bickering
    2. Other people’s issues
    3. People who are rotten to their kids, especially in public

    Three Things I Don’t Understand:
    1. my family
    2. women who kill their babies instead of taking them somewhere safe to give to someone else
    3. people who abuse children and don’t understand why their actions are wrong

    Three Things On My Desk:
    1. baby sock
    2. Super Baby Food book
    3. Unopened package of new bright dry erase markers

Three Things I’m Doing Right Now:
    1. waiting for my rice to finish cooking so I can make a batch of Chicken and Rice for Owen (and hoping I don’t screw it up)
    2. Listening to a load of darks in the washer on spin cycle
    3. Wondering if my dentist is a quack because he thinks I *don’t* need a root canal on that tooth that’s still bugging me

Three Things I Want To Do Before I Die:
    1. get and stay more organized than I currently am
    2. get my master’s degree
    3. learn to enjoy life more and worry less

    Three Things I Can Do:
    1. pick up things off the floor and pinch people with my toes
    2. anything crafty
    3. make a delicious chicken noodle soup from scratch without a recipe

    Three Things I Can’t Do:
    1. Drive a stick shift (very proficiently anyway)
    2. Consistantly stay on a budget
    3. Not procrastinate

Three Things I Think You Should Listen To:
    1. Dave Matthews Band live in concert, preferably at an outdoor venue in the summer
    2. Your mother when she truly has your best interests at heart
    3. When someone says, “Let me help you”

Three Things You Should Never Listen To:
    1. Telemarketers who say, ‘But wait…’ when you politely try to end the call
    2. Music that makes your head hurt
    3. People who say you can’t because you’re a)too old b)not educated enough, etc.

Three Things I’d Like To Learn:
    1. How to be patient so I can sit still for long enough that my nails are truly dry and don’t get smudged after I paint them
    2. That worrying about things I can’t fix by worrying about them does nothing but agitate me
    3. How to say no and be okay about it

    Three Favorite Foods:
    1. warm potato rolls with butter
    2. pasta with a nice red sauce
    3. crabmeat wontons

Three Shows I Watched As A Kid:
    1. The old Mickey Mouse club (not the black & white, but not the new version either)
    2. Sesame street
    3. Romper Room

    Three Things I Regret:
    1. asking E. instead of S. to the girls choice dance my junior year
    2. not having more time with my grandpa
    3. wasting so much time not being able to get over being asked to apply for a different more advanced position at work and then not getting the position and being bitter about being asked to apply in the first place

Three People I’m Tagging (no pressure, just if it seems like fun to do):
    1. Amy at Bite The Rabbit
    2. Heather at Knock Knox
    3. Glitter’s mama at Glittersmama

    Dear Adobe/Macromedia,

    April 5, 2007

So sorry, but we can’t like be BFF* anymore. Yeah, that’s right–no more sleepovers or braiding each other’s hair. And I totally want my friendship bracelets back too.

*Sigh* Yes, even after almost two hours on the phone with tech support on Tuesday and another hour today, programs still are not playing nicely. It must be something pretty special because my case has now been upgraded and I am currently on pins and needles waiting for a call back from senior engineers so we can just MAKE.IT.WORK.

    (Awkward segue)

How not to inspire your wife to feel confident about her hair after having highlights done

Husband: Why did you want to do that to your hair?

Wife: Um, well, it was really looking dark and I needed a change.

Husband: It looks like you peroxided it.

Wife: So what you’re saying is that it looks bad?

Husband: No, not at all–it looks (long pause) fine.

I think someone’s just being diplomatic because they don’t want to get to know the couch this evening at say bedtime. For the record, my hair looks fine–my highlights are just a little bit more blonde than I had anticipated.

    *BFF-totally like Best Friends Forevah
